What Is Somalates®? A Gentler Way to Move, Breathe and Feel Better This Summer
In a world that constantly encourages us to do more, move faster and push harder, many people are beginning to realise that what they actually need is the opposite.
Somalates® offers a different approach.
Blending the mindful movement principles of Pilates with somatic practices that help regulate the nervous system, Somalates® invites you to slow down, reconnect with your body and move in a way that feels supportive rather than demanding.
Unlike traditional fitness classes that focus on calories burned or how hard you can push yourself, Somalates® focuses on how you feel.
The word “soma” simply means “the living body experienced from within.” It is about becoming aware of sensations, breathing patterns, tension and movement habits that often go unnoticed in daily life.
During a Somalates® session, you might find yourself moving more slowly than you are used to. You may spend time noticing your breath, exploring gentle movement patterns and learning to release unnecessary tension held in the body.
Many people are surprised to discover that slowing down can create profound changes.
Participants often report feeling:
Less stressed and overwhelmed
More connected to their bodies
Calmer and more present
More mobile and comfortable in everyday movement
Better able to manage the physical effects of stress
Summer can be a wonderful time to embrace this slower, more mindful approach. With longer days and warmer weather, it offers an opportunity to step away from the constant busyness of life and create space for yourself.
Whether you are completely new to movement, returning after a break, managing stress, or simply looking for a gentler way to support your wellbeing, Somalates® provides a welcoming space to explore movement without judgement or pressure.
It is not about perfect posture.
It is not about pushing through discomfort.
It is about listening to your body, building awareness and discovering how movement can help you feel more at ease within yourself.
Because sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is slow down enough to notice what our body has been trying to tell us all along.
