Why Summer Is the Perfect Time to Start Pilates in Shilton

As the days get longer and the weather becomes warmer, many of us begin thinking about our health and wellbeing. Summer often inspires a fresh start, making it the perfect season to begin a new movement practice that supports both body and mind.

If you've been considering trying Pilates, there has never been a better time to start.

I'm delighted to be launching a brand-new daytime Pilates class at Shilton Village Hall, offering a welcoming space where you can improve strength, flexibility, posture and overall wellbeing, regardless of your age or fitness level.

What Is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise that focuses on controlled movement, breathing, alignment and core strength. Developed by Joseph Pilates, the method is designed to create balanced strength throughout the body while improving mobility, posture and body awareness.

Unlike high-intensity workouts, Pilates encourages mindful movement, helping you reconnect with your body and move more efficiently in everyday life.

Whether you're completely new to exercise, returning after a break, or looking for a complementary practice alongside other activities, Pilates can be adapted to suit your individual needs.

The Benefits of Pilates

Improved Core Strength

Your core is much more than your abdominal muscles. It includes the muscles that support your spine, pelvis and trunk. A stronger core can improve stability, balance and movement efficiency while helping to reduce the risk of injury.

Better Posture

Many people spend long hours sitting at desks, driving or looking down at screens. Pilates helps strengthen the postural muscles, encouraging better alignment and reducing tension in the neck, shoulders and lower back.

Increased Flexibility and Mobility

Pilates combines strengthening exercises with controlled stretching, helping improve joint mobility and muscle flexibility. Many clients notice they move more freely and comfortably after just a few weeks of regular practice.

Reduced Stress and Improved Wellbeing

The combination of movement, breathing and concentration creates a calming effect on the nervous system. Pilates provides an opportunity to step away from daily demands and focus on yourself for a short period each week.

Improved Balance and Coordination

Pilates develops body awareness and control, helping improve balance and coordination, which becomes increasingly important as we age.

Support for Everyday Life

One of the greatest benefits of Pilates is how transferable it is to daily activities. Whether you're gardening, walking the dog, lifting shopping bags or playing with grandchildren, Pilates helps make everyday movement easier and more comfortable.

Why Summer Is the Best Time to Start

More Energy and Motivation

The lighter mornings and longer evenings naturally boost energy levels for many people. This often makes it easier to establish healthy routines and stay consistent with exercise.

A Fresh Start Before Autumn

Summer offers an ideal opportunity to build positive habits before life becomes busier in the autumn. Starting Pilates now allows you to develop strength, confidence and consistency over the coming months.

Improved Movement for Summer Activities

Whether you're travelling, walking more, gardening or spending time outdoors, Pilates helps prepare your body for increased activity while reducing stiffness and discomfort.

Time for Yourself

Summer can be busy with family commitments, holidays and social events. Scheduling a regular Pilates class creates valuable time dedicated entirely to your own health and wellbeing.
