Monday Evening Pilates in Brownsover: More Than Just a Pilates Class

There’s something rather lovely about Monday evenings in Brownsover.

The working day is done. The week is beginning to settle into place. And instead of rushing home, collapsing on the sofa or telling yourself “I’ll start again next week”, a group of women are choosing to move.

To breathe.

To switch off.

And to spend an hour doing something genuinely good for themselves.

That’s what my Monday evening Pilates class in Brownsover has become.

And honestly? It’s about so much more than Pilates.

Come for the Pilates. Stay for the community.

Of course, we move.

We work on strength, mobility, posture, balance and core control. We challenge ourselves, but we also listen to our bodies. Some weeks we might work a little harder; other weeks the focus might be on mobility, control and simply feeling good in our bodies.

But somewhere along the way, something else has happened.

A community has grown.

People have started recognising familiar faces. There are conversations before class, laughs during class and those little chats afterwards that make you realise you've found somewhere you actually enjoy being.

And I think that matters.

Because movement is easier to stick with when you look forward to going.

You don't have to be "good at Pilates"

This isn't a class for people who already have their Pilates technique perfected.

You don't need to be super-flexible.

You don't need to have a strong core.

You don't need to know what you're doing before you walk through the door.

And you certainly don't need to look like an Instagram Pilates instructor!

You just need to turn up.

I'll guide you through the class, offer options and modifications where needed, and encourage you to work at a level that feels right for your body.

Because Pilates isn't about performing the perfect movement.

It's about learning to move your body well.

And then there's that Monday feeling...

You know that feeling when you've spent the day doing things for everyone else?

Work.

Family.

Housework.

Life admin.

Emails.

Driving.

Shopping.

The endless list of things that need doing.

Monday evening Pilates gives you permission to put that list down for an hour.

Your phone can wait.

The washing can wait.

The emails can wait.

For one hour, it's just you, your body and your movement.

And you leave feeling like you've done something for you.

The best bit? You might arrive not knowing anyone.

And that's completely okay.

Quite often, people worry about joining a class because they don't know anyone.

"Will everyone already know each other?"

"Will I feel awkward?"

"What if I'm not fit enough?"

"What if everyone else is much better than me?"

I've heard all of these concerns before.

But every community has to start somewhere.

And the lovely thing about a local class is that you don't have to arrive with a ready-made friendship group.

You simply turn up.

Say hello.

Take your place on the mat.

And gradually, you become part of it.

Spaces don't tend to stay empty for long...

One of the things I've noticed with my Brownsover classes is that once people find a class they love, they tend to want to keep their place.

Which means spaces can be limited.

And if you've been thinking about joining but keep telling yourself “I'll do it next week”, this is your little nudge.

Don't wait until January.

Don't wait until you're fitter.

Don't wait until life is less busy.

Don't wait for the "perfect" time.

There probably isn't going to be one.

Sometimes the best time to start is simply now.
