Why You're More Tired Than You Used To Be (And It's Not Just Your Age)

One of the most common things I hear from women in their forties and fifties is:

"I'm exhausted all the time."

Often this is followed by:

"I suppose it's just my age."

But age is rarely the whole story.

Midlife brings a unique combination of physical, emotional and hormonal demands that can leave women feeling depleted.

Many are balancing careers, ageing parents, teenagers, relationships, financial pressures and their own changing health.

At the same time, fluctuating hormones can affect:

• Sleep quality

• Recovery

• Stress resilience

• Energy production

• Mood

• Motivation

The result?

You may feel as though you're running on empty even when you're doing all the "right" things.

The answer isn't always to push harder.

In fact, many women benefit from doing the opposite.

Instead of asking:

"How can I fit more in?"

Try asking:

"How can I recover better?"

Recovery is not a reward.

It's a requirement.

Some simple ways to support your energy include:

Prioritising protein at meals.

Getting outside in natural daylight.

Walking regularly.

Strength training appropriately.

Reducing unnecessary commitments.

Building moments of rest into your day.

Practising mindful movement.

Creating a realistic bedtime routine.

One of the reasons I developed Somalates® was because so many women needed movement that supported their nervous system rather than adding more stress.

Sometimes the body doesn't need another intense workout.

It needs regulation.

It needs breathing space.

It needs recovery.

If you're feeling more tired than usual, don't assume you're lazy or lacking motivation.

Your body may simply be asking for something different.

Listen to it.

Midlife isn't about doing less.

It's about doing what serves you best.
