The Question That Changed Everything: "What Do I Actually Enjoy?"
There was a time when my diary was full, my to-do list was overflowing, and from the outside everything looked perfectly fine.
But inside, something felt missing.
I wasn't unhappy exactly. I was simply disconnected from myself.
Like many women, I had spent years looking after everyone else. Family. Work. Responsibilities. Deadlines. Appointments. The never-ending list of things that needed doing.
Somewhere along the way I stopped asking myself a very important question:
What do I actually enjoy?
Not what am I good at.
Not what should I do.
Not what needs doing.
But what genuinely brings me joy?
At first, I didn't know the answer.
That might sound surprising coming from someone who works in wellness, but the truth is that even those of us who teach wellbeing can lose sight of our own needs.
So I started paying attention.
I noticed how I felt when I walked the dog in nature.
I noticed how movement changed my mood.
I noticed how much I enjoyed meaningful conversations, writing, learning, creating and helping women feel stronger in their bodies.
Little by little, those moments became clues.
And those clues helped me reconnect with myself.
Midlife can be a powerful invitation to do exactly that.
Instead of constantly asking:
"What should I be doing?"
Perhaps the better question is:
"What lights me up?"
Because when we reconnect with what we enjoy, everything changes.
We have more energy.
More patience.
More confidence.
More resilience.
Joy isn't frivolous.
It's fuel.
If you've been feeling flat, disconnected or stuck recently, I encourage you to spend a few moments reflecting on this question:
What do I enjoy?
You don't need a grand answer.
Maybe it's reading in the garden.
Maybe it's Pilates.
Maybe it's dancing in the kitchen.
Maybe it's sitting quietly with a cup of tea.
Start there.
Sometimes the smallest moments of joy become the biggest turning points.
At Serendipity Wellness®, one of the things I love most is helping women reconnect with themselves through movement, community and wellbeing.
And perhaps that's why this question continues to resonate with me.
Because when we know what nourishes us, we can begin creating a life that feels more like our own.
